Do you know the feeling that sometimes the day just isn’t long enough to get everything done? Instead of seeing a To-Do list that shrinks down towards the end of the day, it often times is fuller than it was at the beginning of the day. To ensure that the “New Tasks” are in balance with the “Completed” ones strong organizational skills, and some self-discipline is needed. To be efficient at your time management two basic things are needed: (1) You have to be well rested and in good health, and (2) You got to start the day on the right foot

We all know how important a good night of sleep is for our well-being, but despite knowing, we often times cut our sleep too short. Below are a few tips that will help you getting ready quicker, and with less stress, each morning. By following and perfecting the steps below you will be on the right track to be a high functioning individual. Once you master the steps below you will set the needed foundation to be efficient: You will get more sleep, and you will start the day in the most efficient manner.

This is much easier than it sounds: Start by looking at the time you have to be at work by. Then look at the time you are currently getting out of bed. The goal is to cut this time gap as much as possible, and adding the gained time for extra sleep each night. I am quite confident that there is plenty of room for improvement, and that you will be able to add an extra hour of sleep each week. Look at each step of the equation and make it as efficient as possible. Below are a few basic tips:

1. Save time in the Bathroom:

Brushing your teeth, taking a shower, shaving, putting on make-up, and so on all takes time. Most people tend to spend too much time in the shower. The water is warm just like your bed. It is difficult to cut this time short. Why not consolidate some of the tasks: Brush your teeth under the shower, and place a fog-proof mirror on one of the walls that will allow you to also shave while being under the shower. This alone will save you at least 3-4 minutes without taking away from your shower time.

2. Organizing your Wardrobe

Your clothes must be easily accessible and well organized. Finding exactly what you are looking for will not only help you safe time but also frustration. Find a system that works for you and practice it until it becomes a habit. Organizing your dress shirts, shoes and neckties by color is an easy way to ensure you will quickly find a matching outfit.

3. Breakfast:

To start the day off well, and to have long lasting energy, it is recommended to eat a light breakfast in the morning consisting of a good balance of carbs, protein and some fats. Stay away from foods with a high sugar or simple carbohydrate content. Such foods include high sugar cereals and sweet coffee drinks that resemble more milkshake than coffee. Instead eat a balanced meal such as a whole-wheat muffin with some lean ham and scrambled eggs. To save time protein bars and fruit are great to take with you for your commute.

4. Your Commute:

Again, can you save time here? Are there other alternatives to your current form of transportation that might save time? Can you beat the rush hour by leaving 10 minutes earlier? How about car-pooling with close-by living coworkers? All these things must be considered. Chances are that you will be able to save 10, 20 or even 30 minutes each day: Time that could be spent sleeping instead of spending it frustrated being your wheel.
